Dr. Sunil Vinayak



Dr. Vinayak, the founder of Smile Africa, was born and raised in Nairobi, and qualified from the University of Nairobi in 1983 - thereafter serving as the Head of Department in Kenyatta National Hospital in Oral Diagnosis and Exodontia.

He established Smile Africa in 1986, and continues to reach out to patients across Kenya and Tanzania through his satellite practices in Arusha, Moshi, Daresalam and Nakuru and Kisumu.

Dr. Vinayak holds memberships with the American Orthodontic Society (AOS); International Association of Orthodontics (IAO); British Orthodontic Society (BOS); Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (FRSH); and Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI).

Aside from providing the highest standards of general dentistry, Dr. Vinayak has a keen interest in Oral Surgery and Orthodontics - and has invested in the Sirona Gallileos 3D facial scanner enabling the best quality images for oral diagnosis at the lowest radiation doses.

Dr. Vinayak is also a proud father to the newly qualified - Dr. Shalin Vinayak (DDS), who is a valued addition to the Smile Africa team.

Dr. Sanjeev Popat


Dr. Popat qualified from St. Barts and the Royal London Hospital in the United Kingdom.  After attaining his BDS (LON) he joined Smile Africa in 2000 and has been a part of the team since then.

Since the time he became a part of the Smile Africa team, Dr. Popat has developed a great reputation as a gentle family dentist. Dr. Popat understands the importance of offering quality dental care to both adults and children.

He also enjoys all aspects of dentistry with an inclination towards Cosmetic Dentistry and Implant dentistry and also regularly attends specialty-training courses and is experienced in various aspects of dentistry, including general and cosmetic dentistry, crown and bridge work, tooth whitening, and Implants.

In his spare time, Dr. Popat enjoys racquet sports, gym and spending time with his wife Simmi.

Dr. Alisha Manji

Originally from Nairobi, Dr. Manji BDS (Wales) has been based in Cardiff for the past 8 years. She graduated from Cardiff Dental School in 2009 and is currently working towards her diploma membership at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Dr. Manji completed her Dental Foundation training in general practice at Rumney Hill Dental Surgery Cardiff in 2010. She went on to complete her second year of foundation training at Prince Charles Hospital under the faculties of oral and maxillofacial surgery and community dental service.

She then joined Smile Africa in May 2013 and has had the opportunity to work alongside various visiting specialists, after which she became a part of our team as an Associate.

Her clinical interests include restorative dentistry, paediatric dentistry and restoring confidence in anxious patients.

Dr. Bhavnik Shah


Dr. Shah studied dentistry in Australia and worked there in private practice for several years.

Having further studied various courses in cosmetic design and smile design, and doing many cases in Australia and Nairobi, he has a keen interest in this field and providing patients with an aesthetic, functional and pleasing smile and gums 

In addition to this Dr. Shah enjoys doing root canals and feel that this is a completely comfortable experience especially when working at the pace of the patient’s comfort zone.

Dr. Bhavnik Shah feels it very important to get any individuals’ mouth to an extremely stable level of health so as to prevent any future problems from arising. Together with the patient his approach to treating an individual, is in a holistic approach taking into account the rest of their body also so as to provide the best treatment outcome for them.
